Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in someone else’s position and to intuit what that person is feeling. “Empathy is related to symphony because empathic people understand the importance of context” (Pink). Put into context, the patients and loved ones who share their horrific stories of hospitals, we can empathize with them; take in those stories and experiences to create a massive out cry for a change in the design of the hospital. “Empathy is an essential part of design, because good designers put themselves in the mind of whoever is going to experience the product or service they’re designing” “Empathy makes us human. Empathy brings joy” (Pink). We can empathize with bad experiences as well as good experiences.
